The NHS recommends you do 2½ hours exercise each week. This is around 30 miles per week if you are a new cyclist (2½ hours at 12 mph) or 40 miles per week if you are already an experienced cyclist (2½ hours at 16 mph). To give you an idea, 30 miles per week would enable you to get a new bike worth £480, whilst 100 miles per week would give you a bike worth £1600, funded by pedal power alone.
